Solar Installation in Port Harcourt

Rainy months cut solar output, so a Port Harcourt system has to be sized for July, not January. Get two or three written quotes that name the exact inverter, battery and panel models.

Solar Installation in Port Harcourt

If you live in Port Harcourt, in GRA, Rumuola, Eliozu, Woji or out towards Choba, you know the routine: PHED light goes, the gen comes on, and petrol money disappears. Solar installation in Port Harcourt can carry part of that load, but only when the system is sized for the city's long rainy season and for the appliances you actually run.

This site installs nothing. It is advertising for independent installers, and this page tells you what to ask them. Read about home solar installation or inverter and battery installation, then call now on +234 809 000 0000 and tell us what you run. An independent installer will quote the job.

What We Do in Port Harcourt

Services for Port Harcourt Properties

Home solar installation

A hybrid system for a duplex or flat in GRA, Rumuola, Eliozu or Woji, sized from your own appliances' rating plates. The independent installer does the load audit before any quote.

Inverter and battery installation

Replace tubular batteries that no longer last the night, or add a hybrid inverter to the panels you already have. Ask for the battery model and the maker's stated cycles in writing.

Commercial solar

Shops, schools, clinics, churches and small offices, including around Trans-Amadi, that want to cut diesel and petrol. Expect a load audit and a clear list of what runs on solar and what stays on the gen.

Solar and inverter repair

A system that keeps tripping, or a battery that dies early. An independent installer should check protection, earthing and battery health and give you a written diagnosis before any parts are bought.

What the sun gives you in Port Harcourt

PVGIS modelling (2005 to 2020 data, 1 kWp of panels, 14% system losses, 10 degree tilt facing south) puts Port Harcourt at 1,271 kWh per kWp per year, or 3.48 kWh per kWp per day. Abuja yields about 21% more per kWp, so a Port Harcourt quote should not borrow yield figures from an Abuja or Lagos brochure.

The monthly spread matters more than the annual figure. The model gives 4.42 kWh per kWp per day in January and 2.52 in July. Illustration, with the working: 3.6 kW of panels x 3.48 = about 12.5 kWh a day on average, about 15.9 kWh on a January day (3.6 x 4.42) and about 9.1 kWh on a July day (3.6 x 2.52). These are model figures, not a promise from any installer and not a measurement from your roof.

Ask the installer which month they sized for. A system sized on January figures will run short in the rains. PVGIS also attributes about 10 to 13% of annual yield to heat and low-light losses in these cities. We found no measured dust or soiling figure for Port Harcourt, so be careful with any installer who quotes an exact one.

PHED light, the gen and what each costs

PHED is the DisCo for Port Harcourt. NERC lists Band A at N209.50 per kWh since 1 July 2024 (NERC order for PHED, 2026/048, latest read May 2026), and Band A means at least 20 hours of supply a day. Bands B to E are frozen at December 2022 rates and differ by DisCo, so check your own bill and your feeder's band instead of trusting a national number.

Generator illustration, with the working: a 3.0 kVA petrol gen such as the Sumec Firman ECO4990ES burns about 1.25 litres an hour (the retailer says it runs up to 12 hours at 50% load on a 15 L tank, so 15 / 12). 1.25 L x 5 hours x N1,400 per litre = N8,750 a day. N1,400 is the Lagos pump price Vanguard reported on 10 to 11 October 2026, so use the price at your own pump.

One safety line. The Guardian, citing NAN on 26 March 2025, reported a couple in Port Harcourt dead of suspected carbon monoxide inhalation, and Daily Trust reported on 13 January 2026 that police suspected generator fume poisoning in the deaths of six family members in Eleme. Never run a gen indoors or near windows.

Getting quotes you can compare

Published October 2026 package prices from Lagos sellers put a 3.5 kVA lithium system with panels at roughly N3.1 to N3.4 million, and a 5 kVA-class system with 10 kWh of lithium and panels at about N5 to N5.5 million. For example, Mercury Direct listed a 3.5 kVA hybrid with 5 kWh lithium and 8 x 450 W panels, installation included, at N3,400,000 on 14 October 2026, and SMK Solar listed a 3.5 kVA, 5 kWh lithium, 6 x 450 W package at N3,121,000. These are not this site's quotes, naira prices move with the exchange rate, and these sellers are in Lagos: ask whether the installer covers Port Harcourt and what delivery adds. A current written quote is the real number. See solar system price in Nigeria for more.

Ask for two or three written quotes that list the exact inverter, battery and panel models, the battery kWh, the panel count, the warranty terms and the VAT treatment. Compare like with like, because some packages include installation and some do not. Keep every receipt: the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018 gives a right to return goods that do not match the agreed specification (s 122, as quoted by Templars in June 2025).

Before anyone climbs your roof, ask for their NEMSA competency certificate and look them up in the NEMSA contractor directory at nemsa.gov.ng/directory/. NEMSA guidelines as reported in April 2026 say rooftop solar must be installed only by NEMSA-certified electrical contractors, with a load assessment first, isolators, breakers, surge protection, earthing, ventilated batteries and a battery management system on lithium. For a shop or clinic, read commercial solar. If an existing system keeps tripping, read solar and inverter repair.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the rainy season make solar a waste of money in Port Harcourt?

Not automatically, but output drops. The PVGIS model gives Port Harcourt 2.52 kWh per kWp per day in July against 4.42 in January, so 3.6 kW of panels works out to about 9.1 kWh on a July day (3.6 x 2.52). Ask the installer to size for the rainy months and to say what will still run on the gen then.

How much does a home solar system cost in Port Harcourt?

Nobody can give a fair number without a load audit of your own appliances. As a reference only, in October 2026 Mercury Direct listed a 3.5 kVA lithium package at N3,400,000 and SMK Solar listed one at N3,121,000, both Lagos sellers with different contents. Prices move with the naira, so a current written quote is the real number.

Can I sell extra solar power to PHED?

There is no scheme for a typical home. NERC's Net Billing Regulations 2026, announced in June 2026, start at a 50 kWp system with DisCo approval, a bidirectional meter and an export tariff still to be determined. A home system is far below that size.

How do I check that a Port Harcourt installer is qualified?

Ask for their NEMSA competency certificate and check it in the NEMSA directory (nemsa.gov.ng/directory/) or on its verification page (nemsa.gov.ng/verification/). Also ask for exact models and serial numbers, because industry experts quoted by NAN in July 2026 say batteries and inverters are among the most counterfeited items.
